Delegation Led by the Deans of the Institute of Visual Informatics at the National University of Malaysia Visited International School

On April 14, 2025, Dr. Rabiah Abdul Kadir, Dean of the Institute of Visual Informatics (IVI) of the National University of Malaysia (UKM), along with Dr. Mohammad Nazir Ahmad, Deputy Dean and Dr. Riza Sulaiman, Head of Industry Engagement and Income Generation at IVI, visited the International School of Guangzhou Huali College. They were accompanied by Dr. Guo Tai Liu, Consultant of the "One BeltOne Road" Institute of China-Malaysia, Dr. Edmund Koh Chuang Hui, Director of the "One BeltOne Road" Institute of China-Malaysiaand Ms. Xin Huang.

Dean Shuze Tang extended a warm welcome to Dean Rabiah and the UKM delegation. Dean Tang provided a brief overview of the development philosophy and mission of the International School, highlighting its unique position as a private undergraduate institution offering an all-English teaching platform. Special emphasis was placed on the nine academic majors delivered entirely in English, the diverse international teaching faculty and the robust international cooperation projects initiated over the past two years.

Following this introduction, Dean Tang presented the members of the school's international teaching faculty to the guests, noting that all faculty members in the International School hold recognized certifications for teaching in English. He further elaborated on the distinct advantages of the all-English teaching platform and shared several strategic proposals aimed at deepening future cooperation between the institutions.

Dean Rabiah expressed her sincere gratitude to Dean Tang for the warm reception and provided a brief introduction to the development, academic programs, educational achievements and international reputation of the National University of Malaysia. She expressed her admiration for the faculty team at the International School, all of whom have overseas academic backgrounds, as well as for the school’s fully English-language teaching platform and impressive international education accomplishments. Dean Rabiah expressed her hope to establish a deeper and more enduring cooperative relationship with the International School in order to create broader opportunities for teachers and students to engage in international study and exchange programs.

Dean Tang and the delegation, led by Dr. Rabiah, Dean of the Institute of Visual Informatics at the National University of Malaysia, held in-depth consultations on a range of topics, including policy support for international education, language proficiency testingand related institutional frameworks.

The visit and fruitful exchange with the delegation headed by Professor Rabiah, Dean of the Institute of Visual Informatics at the National University of Malaysia, significantly enhanced mutual understanding between the two institutions and laid a solid foundation for future collaboration.

The National University of Malaysia is one of five designated research universities in Malaysia. In Malay, it is known as Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and in English, as the National University of Malaysia, commonly abbreviated as UKM or simply the National University. Established in 1970, it is the third public university founded in the country.

The National University is a prestigious institution, renowned not only in Southeast Asia but also globally. Its diplomas and degrees are widely recognized and respected internationally. In the QS World University Rankings 2023, the National University of Malaysia was ranked 129th globally. At present, the university hosts 2,985 international students from 57 countries pursuing undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees across various academic disciplines.

 

Introduction to the Institute of Visual Informatics at the National University of Malaysia

The Institute of Visual Informatics (IVI) at the National University of Malaysia, also referred to as the Institute of Visual Informatics Research of the National University of Malaysia, was established in 2010. It is recognized as a center of research excellence in the fields of computer science and information technology at UKM. IVI is the first research institution in Malaysia to focus on the Fourth Industrial Revolution in alignment with the national technology roadmap.

Currently, the institute consists of 25 researchers and associate researchers. To date, it has contributed to the publication of over 600 high-impact international first-class and second-class academic papers. IVI maintains a long-term collaboration with Springer, the world’s second-largest academic publisher, to publish the IVIC student conference journal. Furthermore, it holds a ranking of 70th in the QS World University Rankings for the best research institutions in data science and artificial intelligence.
