Prof. Charles Brennan, Dean of the School of STEM at RMIT University, Visited International School for Academic Seminar
On April 9, 2025, Professor Charles Brennan, Dean of the School of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), Australia, visited the International School of Guangzhou Huali College to deliver an academicseminar.

Professor Brennan is the former Dean of the GraduateSchool at Lincoln University, New Zealand; editor-in-chief of threerenowned international journals, including the journal International Food Science and Technology; an expert affiliatedwithChina’s “Thousand Talents Program”and a Distinguished Professor at both South China University of Technology and Jinan University.
Accompanying Professor Brennan were Dr. Margaret Brennan, Visiting Professor at RMIT; Professor Xiyang Wu, former Associate Dean of the School of International Studies at Jinan University and a Ph.D. graduate of the University of Wollongong, Australia and Dr. Hong Yao, Associate Professor at the School of Biological Sciences, Jinan University, (University of Queensland, Australia)

Professor Shuze Tang, Dean of the International School, extended a warm welcome to the distinguished guests.

Dean Tang invited the guests to tour the campus and teaching facilities of the International School. During the visit, he provided a brief introduction about Guangzhou Huali College, highlighting its history, educational philosophy, the scale of faculty and student body, key academic strengths, distinctive programs, campus culture and international collaboration initiatives.
Professor Brennan expressed his admiration for the eco-friendly campus, distinctive architectural design, well-equipped sports facilities, vibrant bookstore culture and advanced teaching infrastructure at Guangzhou Huali College. He particularly commended the International School's all-English instructional platform, its internationally diverse faculty and the flexible classroom designs featuring movable desks and chairs. Professor Brennan emphasized his appreciation for the School's innovative English teaching environment and its international academic team.
Professor Brennan delivered an insightful academic lecture titled "How to Prepare a Paper and Aspects to Consider in Writing" in room 4-206. The event was attended by over 80 faculty members and students, including representatives from the teaching staff and all students from the Class of 2022. The lecture was chaired by Dean Tang and conducted entirely in English.

Professor Brennan began by sharing a photo of himself with President Xi Jinping, taken during the latter's visit to Auckland, New Zealand, in November 2014. He then spoke about his decade-long research collaborations with Chinese universities.

Professor Brennan introduced the School of STEM, where he served as both Dean and Professor and discussed his extensive experience as Editor-in-Chief of several international academic journals.During the lecture, he provided valuable insights and practical advice on achieving research success and the tips should be followed for the paper acceptance.Additionally, Professor Brennan invited Professor Margaret Brennan to share her experiences and offer guidance on academic writing skills.

During the interactive session, both teachers and students demonstrated a high level of engagement and enthusiasm. In response to students’ questions, Professor Brennan addressed each one individually, using humor and illustrative examples, which was met with warm applause from the audience.

At the conclusion of the lecture, Dean Tang invited Professor Xiyang Wu to the stage to offer a summary and reflection. Professor Wu remarked that students at the International School were fortunate to have the opportunity to engage directly with distinguished international scholars. He noted that Professor Brennan typically delivers his academic lectures to graduate and doctoral students at top-tier “985” and “211” universities in China.
